Education and in particular lifelong learning (L3) represent important priorities in the government strategy in the state of Hessen. The aim is to improve the overall framework of learning for all citizens ‘from 0 to 99’.
Nowadays, work is becoming increasingly knowledge-intensive. In a country lacking in raw materials, a positive attitude towards learning and continuous further education is of crucial importance to the overall economic situation and Hessen as an international location.
The state of Hessen aims to become the ‘No. 1 state in education’ and supplement existing measures with new ones. Hessen Agentur has been active for many years in the fields of professional further training and advanced teacher training as well as in the initiative “Bidlungsnetz Hessen" (education network Hessen) an interministerial initiative.
This "Qualifizierungsoffensive" (qualification innovative) strives to improve qualifications in the state of Hessen and is supplemented by funds from the European Union. It assists medium-sized firms by funding regional qualification officers who help firms define and implement their vocational training requirements. In addition, a database on further training opportunities in Hessen, the “Weiterbildungsdatenbank Hessen”, has been created. This covers general and vocational further training and also integrates the offers of the “Learning regions” in Hessen.
The Hessen Agentur supports the cross-sector working group “School and Business” in an effort to improve the media expertise of teachers in Hessen. Here teachers are offered free courses during Easter and autumn holidays, which are always fully booked.
The initiative “Bildungsnetz Hessen”, which is supported by ‘hessen-media’, is based on the idea that general access to media-supported lifelong learning can only be successful in an initiative that includes all relevant ministries.
Current activities in this initiative include:
- A status report on lifelong learning
- A comprehensive strategy at state level and a corresponding initiative
- Organization of a European conference on lifelong learning at the end of April 2005
