Media and IT

Hessen is one of the leading regions in Europe in the fields of media and IT with its high-density concentration of clients, developers and end users. Hessen Agentur’s “Media and IT competence center” strengthens this future-oriented branch in Hessen, and it’s position in international markets. One of its key focuses is on supporting take-up measures.

Since 1997 the Landesinitiative hessen-media has been involved in over 150 projects in areas such as schools, universities, telemedicine, social welfare, film and economics. Among the event highlights are the international post-production congress eDIT/VES in Frankfurt and CeBIT. To subscribe the biweekly Hessen media e-mail newsletter, please click here.

Hessen Agentur supports the multimedia-initiative hessen, a strategic joint venture between the state of Hessen and Deutsche Telekom AG. In this initiative, innovative projects are being undertaken to promote Hessen as a central media location.

The program Hessen-IT has set the goal of promoting Hessen as the IT and communications location No. 1 in Germany and also of establishing it as a leading IT region on an international level. The program includes a variety of themes (see below, for example), publicizes guidelines for them and conducts additional activities:

  • Users: On-line marketing, on-line law, IT security, e-business, m-business and mobile office, application service providing and outsourcing
  • Providers: Regulation, financing, internationalisation, software quality

With Sozialnetz Hessen, Hessen Agentur’s Media and IT competence center manages a project of considerable size belonging to Hessen’s Department of Social Affairs. This unique project is a genuine social portal that contains web sites of more than 50 partners in the social services sector and thus encompasses everything from nursery schools and social institutions for senior citizens and the ill, to workplace ergonomics and educational vacations, debt and drug problems of young people as well as accessability.

Hessen Agentur’s Media and IT competence center has also been active in eGovernment since 1998 - from digital signatures for municipalities and electronic applications to register a business or trade, to the concept and execution of large events such as the eGovernment Forum, with over a thousand participants, or the CeBIT eGovernment stand with 150 work stations.

Selected projects of the Media and IT competence center: Sozialnetz (social network),
e-Government, benchmarking, INSTI

Regional benchmarking of the European information sector is the theme of the EU project Understand, the Hessen Agentur is the German partner for this study. Areas being covered are e-Business, e-Government, households and broadband infrastructure.

The Hessen Agentur’s Media and IT competence center developed from an information brookerage unit set up in 1987 by the Hessen economic development organisation that existed at that time. It conducted research for medium-size firms on the-state-of-the-art markets and patents. The results produced a large number of innovation management activities and the promotion and stimulation of innovations in this area. In the context of the current INSTI-project of the BMWA, for example, firms that have not registered for intellectual proberty rights in at least five years can apply for anappropriate innovation and intellectual property rights support funding.

The technological expertise available in the department and necessary for thorough multi-sector researche increasingly led to evaluations requests from the state of Hessen – both in relation to complex fundign proposals as well as to new technologies in general.
